Al Faw Grand Port Phase 1 UXO Survey

Large-scale UXO survey of over 21km² in order to facilitate the construction of the Iraqi Grand Port. Survey took place offshore, in intertidal areas and onshore using a variety of methodologies and equipment. MUSC's survey catamarans, RIBs, hovercraft and ATVs were utilised on the project

Experimental Dredging Area UXO Survey

UXO survey of an area selected for dredging for future port construction activities. Magnetometers, towed behind survey vessels were used to identify magnetic anomalies up to 2m below the seabed.

Bathymetric survey of a designated breakwater area to establish a baseline for future port construction activities. A combination of multi-beam and single beam echo sounders were used to acquire the data. A 40 day tidal study was carried out and correlated with the data.

Diver seabed survey of locations chosen for the installation of underwater sonar. Seabed samples were taken and underwater photography was utilised.

Survey of the Wreck of the Vessel VLCC Amuriyah

Complete visual inspection of the wreck of the huge oil tanker Amuriyah that was sunk during the first Gulf War. This involved diver investigation - including non-intrusive hull thickness measurements and hydrocarbon sampling - and a multibeam sonar survey of the wreck resulting in the creation of a high resolution 3D model.

ICOEEP UXO Mitigation

As part of the Iraq Crude Oil Export Expansion Project (ICOEEP), MUSC undertook the largest marine UXO survey and clearance operation of its type in the world to date. The survey component covered a 150km² oil pipeline corridor route in the territorial waters of Iraq and involved the re-location of previously identified anomalies from MUSC's 2009 survey of the area using towed magnetometers and diver handheld sensors. Hundreds of items of ordnance were found and cleared.

UXO Mitigation in the Intertidal Zone (ICOEEP)

MUSC undertook a UXO survey and clearance operation within a 2.1km x 200m tidal beach corridor as part of the Iraq Crude Oil Export Expansion Project. Hovercraft and all-terrain vehicles were used with magnetometers and mine detectors.

ICOEEP Offshore UXO Survey

MUSC undertook the largest unexploded ordnance (UXO) survey of its type in Iraq. Surveying the inter-tidal to offshore area, MUSC successfully located and classified a variety of targets to be mitigated.
