UXO & Survey

MUSC operates in the Maritime/ Subsea environment, the Inter-Tidal Zone and on Land. MUSC is one of very few companies that has this complete capability and such extensive experience within the UXO field.

Whilst no two UXO projects are alike, for the purposes of clarity we divide our UXO services into the categories detailed below. Using these techniques, MUSC has identified and disposed of thousands of items of ordnance over the last 30 years completely free from ordnance-related injury or accident.

Geophysical UXO Surveys

MUSC provides high resolution non-intrusive mapping highlighting the presence of buried ordnance (UXO) or other explosive remnants of war (ERW). These surveys can be utilised during a project’s design phase, to safely avoid buried ordnance, or to investigate and clear an area during the early construction phase. These techniques are particularly suited to providing a tailored solution for either onshore or underwater areas, particularly when time is limited.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD)

MUSC provides qualified explosives engineers for land tasks and clearance divers for marine tasks to undertake EOD including the following: Intrusive Investigation of items of potential buried UXO identified during Geophysical or other Surveys. Rendering safe, transportation and disposal of UXO. Diver investigation of shipwrecks and other submerged structures for UXO/ERW followed by rendering safe and/or removal of UXO. The disposal of time-expired or damaged/stockpiled ordnance.

Battle Area Clearance (BAC) and Demining

MUSC undertakes systematic clearance and handover of areas of known conflict or bombardment, for commercial development. This service is often the preferred solution for relatively confined areas and/or areas that are known to contain quantities of non-UXO surface battle debris. In areas likely to contain the threat of landmines, the identification and clearance is known as Demining.

UXO Threat Mitigation

Mitigation of security threats require a planned and co-ordinated response from appropriately trained operators. Ship and port operators, flag states and government agencies work with MUSC to assess and develop their security operations
